Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor has called on the various Regional Security Council to take over in the fight against illegal mining in the country.
He said the activities of Operation Halt is only surgical and when they leave the illegal miners come back.
The new approach he noted is for REGSEC to take charge and even if the operation halt team leaves no vacuum is created to give room for the galamseyers to come back.
Mr Jinapor said this in the Central Region after a meeting with the Central Regional REGSEC in Cape Coast at the beginning of a two day working visit to the region.
He said it is the determination of the government to ensure that the natural resources of the country benefit every body and therefore will not allow some few individuals to hold the entire nation to ransom.
The Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan said the fight against illegal mining must not be politicized because the pollution caused to the country’s river bodies affects all.
