Trade Minister visits Makola Market

The Trade Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng On Tuesday , July 6 2021, accompanied by his two deputies, Micheal Okyere Baafi and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, led a delegation from the Ministry of Trade and Industry together with officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and The Ghana Union of Traders to asses the extent of damage caused by the fire outbreak at the Makola Market in Accra last Monday.

The minister noted with great pleasure the rapid response by a joint team of the Military, Police and Fire service personel who are working tirelessly to douse the inferno and to provide maximum security for some of the salvaged valuables.

Alan Kyeremateng was saddened by the loss to many traders and assure them of government’s commitment to partner with the necessary stakeholders to fast track efforts at alleviating their plight and to get them back into business as quickly as possible.

Given the recent increase in fire outbreaks at market centres in parts Accra and Kumasi, The minister tasked multi- stakeholder committee probing the market fires in the country to begin an immediate review process to inform and guide government on the way forward.

He further stated Nana Addo led administration believes that the private sector is an engine of growth and government will ensure that this development is brought to a desirable end.
