The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor has charged the Western Regional Security Council to deal with all persons involved in illegal mining, irrespective of political colour or position after a closed door meeting with the Western Regional Security Council.
He said the Regional Regsec has already arrested some 16 excavators from the illegal miners and that should continue.
Speaking on day one of his two day tour of the region Mr Jinapor said government will ensure that galamsey is a thing of the past.
He said going forward all regional ministers and DCEs must lead in stopping galamsey.
He said the country’s law must be applied and must be applied fully and that has been communicated to all the Regional Security Council.
The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor,has today Monday, April 26,2021, begun a two-day working tour of the Western Region.
While in the Region, the Hon. Minister will call on the Regional Minister and Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, interact with security chiefs, and inspect Community Mining sites,and also inspect some government projects.
The Minister is accompanied on the tour by his two Deputy Ministers Designate Hon. Benito Owusu Bio and Hon. George Mireku Duker, CEO’s of the Forestry, Minerals and Lands Commission, the MDF and some MPs serving on the Select Committee of Lands and Forestry of Parliament as well as the Mines and Energy Select Committee.
